The medal was silvered to enhance its appearance — a common historical practice intended to improve visual qualities by applying a silver or gold coating. In this case, the surface was silvered over existing nicks, scratches or areas and little corrosion. It was also subtly darkened (patinated) to accentuate the finer details of the design. 

Obv.: Conjoined left-facing busts of Emperor Nicholas II in uniform with orders, sash, and star, and Peter I in contemporary military dress with a laurel wreath.

Rev.: Ornamental coat of arms of the city of Narva, crowned with a cherub’s head and adorned with cornucopiae.

This medal commemorates the bicentenary of the Russian capture of Narva during the Great Northern War.
