From December 1705 to January 1706, Riga endured a siege, leading to a severe cash shortage. To address this, General Governor Carl Gustav Frölich authorized the countershaping of Swedish one-mark and five-öre coins with a special Karl XII monogram, effectively doubling their value. However, due to the town's opposition, Karl XII of Sweden revoked this decree in January 1706.
