When Annia Galeria Faustina died in AD 140 shortly after her fortieth birthday her husband Antoninus Pius had her deified. To honour her memory he built a temple for her in the Forum and issued a coinage in her name as Diva Faustina. Unusually, the posthumous coinage in her name was produced over a sustained period.
Coins are the most frequent category of Roman imports encountered in Barbaricum (territories beyond the borders of the Empire). Silver Denarii remained in circulation for a very long time.
In addition 'Limes' Denarii were casts from Roman coins at the frontiers of the Empire which were likely produced by local authorities in times of shortage of monetary supply.
