Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906) was a Norwegian playwright and poet and a central figure in the development of modern European drama. He transformed theatrical conventions by introducing psychological realism, complex character development, and bold social critique. Ibsen’s plays frequently examine themes of individual freedom, moral responsibility, and the tension between personal truth and social norms.

Among his most influential works are A Doll’s House, Ghosts, An Enemy of the People, The Wild Duck, and Hedda Gabler. These dramas challenged contemporary views on marriage, authority, and hypocrisy and provoked wide public debate. Ibsen’s innovative approach profoundly influenced later playwrights and established him as one of the most important figures in the history of world theatre.
