Medalier: A. Griliches Jr. (without signature).

Obv.: Bust of Emperor Alexander III to right with laurel branch at left and semicircular legend at right.

Rev.: Two-line date inscription with Imperial crown above and four-pointed cross below.

This medal was issued under Nicholas II in 1896 to commemorate the reign of his father, Emperor Alexander III, whose rule from 1881 to 1894 was marked by centralization of state authority, industrial development and reinforcement of traditional imperial symbolism. The design by A. Griliches Jr. reflects the sober and dignified official style of late nineteenth-century Russian award medals.
