Germany, Saxony (Magdeburg) AR Denar ND (c. 965-985) – Anonymous, temp. Otto I - Otto III

1.47g. 22mm. UNC/UNC. A very beautiful exemplar, well centered and struck in high relief, retaining some luster beneath a charming natural patina.

Obv.: Small wide cross surrounded by dots and dashes, interrupted by crosses and a ringlet (imitation of legend).

Rev.: Stylized facade of the church with four columns, cross in centre (unclear by incusum of the obverse). Raised rims.

The type comes from the Carolingian “XPISTIANA RELIGIO” of Emperor Louis I, 814-840.
