BATAILLE DE PREUSS EYLAU
VIII. FEVRIER
MDCCCVII
(Battle of Preuss-Eylau, 8 February 1807).
The Battle of Preuss-Eylau, fought on 8 February 1807 in East Prussia, was one of the most brutal engagements of the Napoleonic Wars. Although tactically indecisive, the battle halted Russian advances and reinforced Napoleon’s strategic position in Central Europe. The iconography of this medal reflects Imperial propaganda celebrating steadfast victory and the endurance of the French army. The modern restrike carries the cornucopia hallmark of the Paris Mint, indicating post-1880s manufacture and the continuation of the celebrated Napoleonic medallic tradition throughout later French history.
