The Battle on the Ice took place on 5 April 1242 on the frozen Lake Peipus, involving the Novgorod forces under Alexander Nevsky and the troops of the Livonian Order, supported by units of the Bishopric of Dorpat. According to Russian and Livonian written sources, the engagement concluded the Livonian campaign in the region for that season and led to a withdrawal from the frontier zone. It is one of the better documented military encounters in the northeastern Baltic during the mid-13th century.
Issue historically associated with present-day Estonia.
