Roman Empire, Group of Denarii (4) – from Vespasian to Marcus Aurelius

Coins in mixed conditions. Sold as is; no returns.

Lot includes: Vespasian (rev. Ceres; Pax seated) (2);

Trajan (rev. Fortuna Redux);

Divus Marcus Aurelius (rev. eagle).

Coins are the most frequent category of Roman imports encountered in Barbaricum (territories beyond the borders of the Empire). Silver Denarii remained in circulation for a very long time.

In addition 'Limes' Denarii were casts from Roman coins at the frontiers of the Empire which were likely produced by local authorities in times of shortage of monetary supply.
