Medal awarded to graduates of women's institutes under the Department of Institutions of Empress Maria. The inscription on the reverse of the medal, 'ПОСѢТИ ВИНОГРАДЪ СЕЙ' ('Tend this vine'), is a quotation from the Psalter in Church Slavonic. In Russian, it translates to: 'O God of Hosts, turn Your gaze upon us, look down from Heaven, and tend to Your vineyard!' (Psalm 79:15).
