Lot №1

Persia, Achaemenid Empire AV Daric c. 485-420 BC – Time of Darios I to Xerxes II – NGC Ch VF

Strike: 3/5, Surface 5/5. A striking example with fine details and outstanding luster.

Obv.: Persian Great King or hero, wearing kidaris and kandys, in kneeling-running attitude to right, holding spear and bow; quiver over shoulder.

Rev.: Rectangular incuse punch.

Carradice Type IIIb, Group A (pl. XIII, 28); BMC Arabia pl. XXIV, 26.

Displaying brilliant and shimmering golden luster, this entrancing issue from the height of Persia demonstrates both a strong strike and problem-free surfaces, with very minimal evidence of handling. However, there is a slight misalignment of the strike, which does not detract from the overall excellent impression of the coin.
