The 1762 Peter III Rouble issued in the only year of its type and a rare and valuable coin that would be a true highlight in any collection of Russian coins.
Peter III (1728–1762) was Emperor of Russia from January to July 1762. The grandson of Peter the Great, he was born in Schleswig-Holstein and raised in Germany before being brought to Russia to become the heir to the throne. His reign lasted only about six months but was marked by significant reforms, including the secularization of church lands and the liberation of the nobility from compulsory service. Peter III also made peace with Prussia, which caused discontent among many in Russia. His rule ended in a palace coup orchestrated by his wife, the future Empress Catherine II. Peter III was deposed and soon after died under mysterious circumstances.
