The State Museum of Vladimir Mayakovsky in Moscow is a memorial museum dedicated to the poet Vladimir Mayakovsky. It was founded in 1937, initiated by Lilya Brik, originally as a library-museum. The first location was in Gendrikov Lane, where Mayakovsky lived with Lilya and Osip Brik in 1926-1930.
In 1972, the museum was relocated to a former communal apartment (No. 12, 3rd floor) on Lubyansky Proezd, and the premises were completely rebuilt for the new museum display.
In 1989, the exhibition was radically redesigned in a constructivist/avant-garde style: a multi-level installation was created to present not only Mayakovsky’s life and legacy but also the wider context of the Russian avant-garde.
