Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860-1904) was a renowned Russian playwright and short story writer. One of the most influential figures in world literature, Chekhov is celebrated for his masterful plays, including “The Seagull,” “Uncle Vanya,” “Three Sisters,” and “The Cherry Orchard,” as well as for his hundreds of short stories. His works are noted for their subtle characterization, psychological depth, and understated style, profoundly shaping modern drama and short fiction. Alongside his literary achievements, Chekhov was also a practicing physician throughout his life. He died at the age of 44 from tuberculosis, leaving a lasting legacy in both Russian and world literature.
