Germany (Speyer) AR Denar ND - Heinrich III (1039-1056)

0.83g. 19mm. AU/AU. Bent.

Obv.: Crowned facing busts of Conrad II and Heinrich III, cross-tipped scepter between them; traces of legend (+CHONRAD IP HEINRIG IP).

Rev.: Nimbate facing half-length figure of the Virgin Mary with child ahead, raising hands; traces of legend (+SCA MARIA).

Dannenberg 829; Kluge 143.

This is the only case in the German coinage in Ottonian and Salic times, where two rulers, father and son appear together. The question now is whether the type belongs to the time of Conrad II and the co-reign of Heinrich III (1025/28-39) or to the time of Heinrich III from 1039.
