Modern commemorative replica of the 1574 Leiden siege medal, struck in 1975.
Raised inscription on obverse below: 1975 CL 900 HA (indicating production year and fineness 900 silver).
Obv.: Angel descending right, striking down the Assyrian army before the walls of Jerusalem (Biblical scene after 2 Kings 19).

(As Sennacherib before Jerusalem, 2 Kings 19).
Rev.: City view of Leiden from above; Spanish troops withdrawing from siegeworks.
Inscription around:
SIC•HISPA•A•LEYD•NOCTV•FVG / 3•OCTO•1574•
(Thus the Spanish fled from Leiden on the night of 3 October 1574).
This medal is a modern 1975 collector’s reproduction of the famous Leiden relief medal of 1574, originally attributed to G. van Bylaer and described by van Loon. The replica preserves the historical iconography but carries modern production marks identifying it clearly as a twentieth-century issue.
