Tin-lead alloy medals are rarely found in excellent condition, as the metal is prone to oxidation and easily susceptible to mechanical damage.
This medal commemorates Russia’s decisive victory over the Swedish army at the Battle of Poltava on June 27, 1709. The victory marked a turning point in the Great Northern War and affirmed Russia’s status as a major European power under Peter the Great.
